Why Artistic Bed Linens?

Posted on June 17, 2013 | 0 comments

People often ask me why have I decided to create artistic bed linens. The question makes sense. But the answer is not that simple. As an entrepreneur I always seek the unique: to do things in a different way. And ARTnBED is definitely about doing things different. But you know what - that's not the purpose of it. In the end, what we wanted to do in ARTnBED is making people feel good. That's the purpose of art and that's what we want our customers to feel when they enter their bedroom. It is that simple.

I think the best explanation can be found in this post by Marie Jonsson-Harrison, the artists behind a few of our sets:

"So my aim with my quotes is the same as with my art I want to make you feel good! In the process of doing that it also makes me feel good, lol so that makes us all happy right? Just like the title of this acrylic on canvas board painting called “After the rain the flowers came”, there is an upside to everything.  The glass is always half full."

Black Duvet Covers

Posted on June 04, 2013 | 0 comments

Among the first artworks we have considered for our bedding line were the paintings of Myoung-Jo Jeong from S. Korea:

We envisioned black duvet sets with these paintings on the center. So oriental and unique! Eventually the only black set in our collection is "Hindley street":

But we still want to design an oriental, black collection. We'll get there

Don't take life too seriously!

I never met Marie Jonsson-Harrison, the artist behind "Hindley Street" and "Pottering at the Port". But somehow we became good friends after a few emails. Our business communication was very open and the trust was there immediately. It's not that easy with artists, especially when you come with creative ideas like printing their art on bed linens. But now it's much more than business. We're virtual friends! I love her attitude towards life. In fact, what you see in her paintings is Marie. So I do ask for her opinion here and there.

A few weeks back someone had a weird comment on one of our posts on Facebook. And when I asked Marie what she thought, her answer was: "Obviously taking life way too seriously and needs to snorkel in bed or chill out on the Beach chairs".

You see, that simple!

Beach painting turns into a dress

Posted on May 19, 2013 | 1 comment

My daughter Jordan started to develop her unique style when she was 8 or 9 years old. I admit that there wasn't a lot of good taste at the time in her style... but now she's 12, and she definitely stands out. You can recognize her when she's hanging out with her friends. She's the one wearing clothes with flair or carrying a unique stylish item like a petite French woman (well, she was born in Paris, after all).

Last year, her class planned a costume party. With Jordan, such an event requires special preparation. You can't really take her to the mall a few days before to pick a costume. No way! She'll never wear a "standard" costume.

Being-forward looking parents, we sat with her a couple of weeks before to discuss her costume.  After a few days she found a unique M&M’s costume on eBay. Off we went, logged on and ordered two weeks in advance. Everyone was happy!

A week later, we started to get worried. The package did not arrive. I checked with the seller and he confirmed that the costume was shipped by USPS one day after the order was placed. But three days before the party, we understood that it's time for a backup plan, and, needless to say that a standard costume just wouldn't do.

At that time I was busy with the production of ARTnBED's sets, and I recall seeing a few leftovers of the "Chairs on the Beach" set in the factory. I offered Jordan that we make a unique dress for her with this fabric and make her look like a true little mermaid. Lucky for us, she liked the idea! Sharon took her right away to prepare the dress, and one day before the party it was ready. A real Beach dress, and most important - UNIQUE! I don't have photos of that dress, but you can see the painting here and imagine...

Jordan happy, we're happy! Good thing her father makes unique bed linens, right?

From MOMA's FB Page to Bedding

Posted on May 12, 2013 | 0 comments

A while back, I landed on MoMA’s FB page to see what's up – and my eye’s popped! I was enchanted with the colors, details, and joy that filled every corner of this naive painting by the artist Marie Jonsson-Harrison, from Australia.

I didn’t waste a minute and sent Marie a note right away. Long story short -  at first Marie had concerns about the concept and quality of our product, but after careful inspection and consideration,  she agreed that her art belonged in our bedding collection.

And that's the story of "Hindley Street", our most colorful collection. In this painting Marie brings her great sense of humor and keen observation of life. Can’t sleep?  No worries – rest your eyes on the endless details of this amazing painting until the sandman comes.  Then you’ll wake with a smile every morning under this cheerful duvet cover

Or its white version:
